Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms in both coastal and inland areas involving interventions in the rearing process to enhance production. (FAO, 2018).

The progress of aquaculture in Ecuador and the growing importance of the activity worldwide led to the ESPOL, through the College of Maritime Engineering, Biological, Oceanic and Natural Resources Sciences (FIMCBOR, acronym in Spanish), to create the Aquaculture Engineering Program in 1985; since then, has been training competent professionals with knowledge on design, operation, production, extension and management of environmental, social, nutritional and health aspects of aquaculture systems.
